-
What led to your decision to release Compilation 5 and the 'Rare Vinyl Mixes'
tracks as iTunes exclusives?
-
Do you foresee more iTunes-exclusive releases in the future?
-
Do you have plans to make the FAX releases on iTunes available in all countries that iTunes serves?
-
What is your take on the whole Dr Atmo "Man Made Motion" vs Tetsu
Inoue "Slow and Low" debacle? Was it a mistake, a joke, or just pure
evil?
-
Would you ever work with Dr Atmo again?
-
What are your three favourite releases on the entire Fax Label?
-
What are your three favourite sublabel releases?
-
Do you have any current favourite electronic (and
non-electronic) artists?
-
Do you foresee yourself ever "retiring" from music making, or will you go on
as long as you can? Can the Fax label survive without you releasing material?
-
Do you believe that your current reduced output compared to the early days
has resulted in a noticable change in your output in any way, be it quality,
style or whatever?
-
How do you think you have "evolved musically" since you began
recording?
-
Have you released almost everything you've ever recorded,
or have you got tons of unreleased stuff lying around?
-
What has been your most challenging project (whether collaboration or
individual work) and why?
-
We all know that you feel that there is not a big market for you to
do live shows ( at least outside of germany ), would it be feasable to
do live sessions broadcasted over internet ( audio and video ) ?
-
Are there earlier Fax artists (on the PK, PW, PS) that only released one or two tracks ( or releases )
that you feel should have continued making music ( at least for those
that did not continue, either on the fax label or other labels ) ?
-
Was there any particular inspiration behind "Picnic" on
Silence V, or were you just thinking of a generic picnic?
-
Is the guitar riff on the first track of Adlernebel a sample from an early 70s song by America, or is it Pete on his own guitar?
-
Who would you most like to work with?
-
Do you ever listen to your own stuff?
-
A number of FAX releases will have a magical, usually ambient, moment
where the sounds meld into something perfect which causes "brain
tingle", for lack of a better term, in the listener. When creating the
music, are these moments readily apparent to you as well? Are they
purposefully created or something that just happens, or is it something
that is not discernable until later when listening to the end product?
-
Describe the usual collaboration methodology. For example, how are
ideas / sounds / music passed back and forth? How many times are they
passed back and forth until completion?
-
What do you think of doing a 5.1 channel surround sound DVD-audio
release? Do you think the 5.1 would add to or detract from your
music?
-
Music To Films is an alternate soundtrack to
'Koyaanisqatsi'. However, obviously the CD length is less than the 87
minute film lenghth, so it would seem that the CD version is
incomplete. Does a complete version exist that could act as a true
alternate soundtrack? If so, is there any chance of releasing it?
-
Did you get a Buddha Machine, and if so how many, what colors,
and would you consider creating loops for one?
-
What musical influence(s) have inspired you and your music and its
direction over the years.
-
Namlook III seems to be one of the hardest discs for people to get into, at
least with your solo projects.
What are you feelings about this album?
-
What are your views on music and drugs going hand in hand?
-
FAX releases are often real "growers": one has to give them
time to grow on oneself before discovering the true hidden beauty and complexity.
Do you agree with this statement, and, if so, is it intentional? Do
you prefer it this way or would you prefer to release music that
immediately reveals all and leaves nothing for later discovery?
-
If you had to assign a percentage figure to the importance of commercial
viability vs. artistic/self-indulgence value to your recent and future releases, what would
it be. For example: 30% commcercial, 70% art.
-
How come the release schedule of Fax has quieted down in recent years?
Particularly the sublabel, as I'd have thought as the label got more well
known it'd be easier to find candidates for sublabel releases than around
1994/5, when there were loads despite the label being relatively new. Is
this indicative of a drop-off in the standard of electronica?
-
Why did you do the rap remixes (Xavier Naidoo, Sabrina Setlur, etc)?
-
How do you light a cigarrette "old fashioned style"?
-
In a previous interview you stated: "To just play back
compositions live is not interesting for me.
Playing live was for me since the start of FAX, composing live.. this
is the real thing." Can you expound this topic, in terms of approaches
and/or techniques you use both in the studio and when performing live.
